So, you have a piece of furniture that has been painted. Maybe it’s been painted with chalk style paint, maybe you don’t know what it was painted with (if that’s the case, be sure to test for lead), but you DO know you want it a different color.
4 Steps to Re-Painting
Assuming your paint is lead free, there are 4 main steps to painting over furniture:
- Prep – do not skip this!
- Repairs (if applicable)
- Paint
- Protect (i.e. top coat)
See How to Re-Paint Your Furniture!
Until this project, I have only painted over a few small pieces: the doll furniture, and my farmhouse bench. This project was a custom piece so I had to do some research before I could start. I am always so thankful for other YouTubers who share their knowledge online and I want to do the same, so I created a YouTube video showing how we re-painted and upcycled this dresser using ecofriendly chalk style paint and other products. So if you’re a beginner painter, or an expert, and you want to know how to paint over previously painted furniture – this is the video for you!
Check out our video and let me know what you think!
