We don’t use the F word.
I’m talking about “Flip,” of course. I hate using that word because it sounds quick and easy, and that’s rarely what my projects are about. The difficult ones seem to find me. If you’ve ever watched those house flipping shows on HGTV you know how much work it takes to flip a house vs. build and buy a new one. Same goes for furniture!
Although I don’t like the word, “flip” is actually a good choice in the case of this buffet because compared to my other projects, it was simple. Finally!
My friend bought this buffet from Marketplace a few years ago and although there wasn’t anything wrong with it, she wasn’t in love with the blond color, and it had some stains and water rings on top. Since she is a local professional photographer, and wanted some experience with branding photography, we agreed to do a swap and collaborate on this buffet.
First things first: we had to decide on the color. Between kids and corporate jobs, I think we carved out 10 mins to meet around the kitchen table and decide on a color. . She chose Country Chic Paint in “Peacoat.” And the hardware, since she wasn’t in love with the original either, so I grabbed some champagne pulls at Home Depot.
After we had all the details figured out, I finished up the prep work: cleaning, wood filling, gluing, sanding, and priming. I talk about all that on our YouTube video, so check it out. And see my supplies list below.
It was such a treat to have Libby act as my own personal paparazzo. I am super awkward in front of the camera, but we were giggling so much it was hard to get serious at times! I feel so lucky to have so many amazing pictures of the painting process.
