The Restored Dogwood

Sustainable Style For Your Home

Home Flips, Parts II-III

March 11, 2021      therestoreddogwood

With no plans for family Christmas gatherings during COVID winter 2021, and no need to tidy the house, we could afford to let the house enter into a messy DIY phase…which is different from regular messy. We had two projects in mind: paint the library shelves white, and upcycle a little bedside table in our guest room.

The Library

There isn’t anything particularly sustainable or eco-friendly about the library paint project…but it did consume a lot of free time around the end of 2020. I went shelf by shelf, square by square and finally got it all finished about a month later in January 2021. And, I decided I’m never painting those shelves ever again. But, we are going to paint the double doors eventually…just have to decide on a color.

Finished Painted LIbrary

It is DEFINITELY one of my favorite rooms in the house, and after I finished painting I may have pointed out to the family a few <hundred> times how beautiful the shelves looked. I love how the decor has meaning, there isn’t anything random, every piece has meaning and a story.

Upcycled Bedside Table

This project was all hottie husband. He chose the paint color, he bought the paint, changed his mind about what he was going to paint, and decided to paint a little table in our guest room. Remember our trip to Occoquan, VA on Black Friday 2020? Where we picked up the Wise Owl paint from The Reclaimed Treasures? It was finally time to use on a little bed side table.

Wise Owl Paint

I was pretty wrapped up in library chaos, and although I provided some council and advice, this was mainly Doug’s (aka hottie husband) project. He got to experience what has happened to me on every paint project so far: a change of design midway through. I think he originally planned to paint the drawer a lighter blue, but then decided to keep it unpainted, and I think that was the right call.

The Final Result

I think this little table is a perfect example of the power of paint! It was fine before, but lacked pizzazz. And even though this baby is in a corner, it adds a pop of color and fun to the room. Someday I’ll get that room blog/’gram ready, but until then, just picture this cutie in there waiting for post COVID time visitors!
