How we Upcycled a Vintage Desk

If you’ve spent anytime looking at furniture on Instagram or Pinterest, no doubt you’ve seen more than a few desks in the 6-9 drawer range. It’s very popular to take vintage desks and give them a whole new life with a combination of paint and natural wood.

And why shouldn’t it be “the thing” right now? If a piece has beautiful wood grain it shouldn’t be covered up with paint!

When I bought this desk from a long time friend last year as her mom was downsizing, my vision was: paint on the body, sanded top and drawers. That’s what I saw, what I wanted, but I wasn’t 100% sure I could accomplish it. For one thing, I’m still learning how to use my fancy Surfprep sander (not an affiliate link, I just love my sander). But thanks to two previous pieces, my Thomasville table and the rolltop desk, I was getting used to the different sanding pads and which was good for what purpose.

Working as a content creator for Country Chic Paint on the farmhouse dresser turned cabinet was an amazing experience. I feel so fortunate to have been picked by the company to try and feature their products. I can’t say enough good things about that company.

I decided it was finally time to work on this desk so it could stop taking up so much space in our storage room. I spent a lot of time sanding as I waited for my paint products to come; good use of down time I think!

Rather than write up my process, check out our YouTube video because…that’s why I made it! I hope you love it as much as I do.
