After the hustle, anxiety, excitement, stress, fun, relief, etc. that comes with fixing furniture for sale, I decided to work on some items and projects around the house. I had a few items in mind, but I started with the low hanging fruit: a faded picnic basket that was my grandmother’s, but how or where she got it, I don’t know.
First, The Basket
I remember this basket was always around the house growing up. I even vaguely remember using it and the plastic “Jerrywill” picnicware that was kept inside. In my teenager years I used to go antiquing with my parents (which I kept a secret from friends because I was afraid they wouldn’t understand my antique obsessions) and we bought some extra dishes…because everyone needs colorful plastic picnicware!
I decided the basket was a good candidate to paint. Since I was keeping for myself, I didn’t worry about the paint dripping on the inside, or brush strokes or anything. It was a very quick paint job!
Occoquan and Wise Owl
We have never been big Black Friday shoppers, and of course we weren’t going to start during COVID times. But we needed an activity after Thanksgiving, so we took a trip to downtown Occoquan for lunch on that Friday. I knew about a home store in town called The Reclaimed Treasures that is a retailer for Wise Owl Paint, which was on my list of eco paints to try. Hottie Husband bought two bold, blue quarts for a bedside table I gave him permission to paint. 😉 And I bought Wise Owl furniture salve to try out on my basket!
The Finished Product
This was a very satisfying project because it was fast, easy (finally!) and everything worked like it was supposed to! And…I found a product that I am totally in love with which is the Wise Owl furniture salve. Has such an amazing, fragrant yet not chemically scent. The basket is living its best life on top of our cherry cupboard, which received its own makeover. More on that in a different post. 😉
