Want to know the coolest thing about owning a furniture refinishing business? When friends come to you and say, “I have this old piece of furniture….” and they either ask for advice, ask if you want it, or (the biggest compliment) ask if you can refinish it!
Sometime in the fall of 2020 a friend messaged me and asked if I wanted a few small pieces of furniture from her parent’s house. This friend is also in the Beautycounter world with me, so I felt a special bond sharing my eco-friendly vision with her because we both have similar feelings about using safe products in ALL aspects of our lives.
This little wardrobe was one of the pieces she graciosly donated to me, and she made sure I knew that fixing it up, and selling for a profit, was OK to do, and I appreciated that. At that time, I was busy finishing up the vintage doll furniture, and the later I moved onto home diy, so the wardrobe sat in my “workshop” (dining room) for months.
Inspiration
Finally, in January 2021 I was inspired to work on this piece after seeing the sweet Dixie Belle pink in a favorite store of mine, Vintage Magnolia. I was ready to try a new brand of paint, and I grabbed some hemp oil along with their stain blocker BOSS.
Both of these products are AMAZING, especially the BOSS (which stands for Blocks Odors, Stains, Stops Bleed Thru). I have used it on three projects so far, one with a questionable dark stain, and another with questionable previous paint job, and NO BLEED through on either of those projects after I applied BOSS. It blocks like a boss!
I envisioned the cabinet as a small chest for a young girl to keep special things in, or to use for doll accessories. I initially intended to use the pink wallpaper I had leftover from the doll dresser and vanity, and Dixie Belle Fluff leftover from our cherry cabinet redo. But, I realized I had two different colors of pink and although I like pink, there’s such a thing as too much pink. Luckily I had ordered some wallpaper samples from my favorite eco-friendly wallpaper source, Thistle and Fox. I decided to go for her white background color inside, and an accent outside. SO glad I made this decision because I think the outside paper just MADE this cabinet pop!
The Finished Result
Within a day of listing on Facebook Marketplace, the wardrobe was pending. I think it looked SO adorable. What do you think?!
