If you’ve spent any amount of time on Facebook marketplace, then chances are you’ve seen a vintage rolltop desk or two. I found this small desk in September of 2020 right after I decided to start this venture, and I knew this desk had potential. It’s not huge like most rolltops; it’s very compact and perfect for small spaces.

According to the previous owner, the desk was from a law office in Ruston, LA where her mom worked. Years ago the office got new furniture and her mom saved this little desk. Funny thing is, we used to live about an hour west of Ruston so I knew exactly where that was! Small world.

This desk needed serious help. The roll top didn’t slide well, so Doug took off the back and removed the roller. Then…it sat. And sat. And sat. Doug sanded the top and it looked amazing, but it sat some more.

We moved on to other projects, and got busy with house DIYs. Finally, after I finished the Pennsylvania House cabinet it was time to work on this desk – for real this time.

I decided to experiment with the surprep sander and tried sanding the little pull out writing board and bottom drawer – that experiment was a total success. We repaired the rolltop and gave it a new back.

Here are the details on what I used:

  1. Paint: Country Chic Paint, Nightfall, Crinoline (insert)
  2. Top coat: Country Chic Clear Coat
  3. Catalog pulls: DLawless
  4. Liners: ThistleandFox

We LOVE the final result. This is the first time I had a vision for a piece and I was able to stay true to that design concept. What do you think? Drop us a comment and let us know.
